Nairobi, KENYA: Two rugby players Lawrence Frank Wanyama and Alex Mahaga Olaba, who play for Kenya Harlequin Rugby Club were on Monday arraigned in court and charged with gang rape.

It is alleged that on 11th February 2018 at Seefa apartment in High-rise area within Nairobi County the two accused persons jointly intentionally and unlawfully raped an upcoming musician.

The two denied the charge before chief magistrate Francis Andayi.

They have each been granted a cash bail of sh 500,000 or an alternative bond of 1M

The two had to record statements at the police station after the complainant posted the incident on her social media platform claiming to have been attacked forcefully during her birthday celebration on the same day.

She said that she only knew one of the two rugby players and after a night of fun, she went home with them.

It was then, she claims, that they took advantage of her drunken state and raped her repeatedly.

She further says that she went to hospital the next morning, but did not report the incident to the police, not until a test showed she was pregnant.

The matter will be heard on 16th May.
