Kwale, KENYA: Orange Democratic Movement is celebrating its victory after its candidate Hamisi Mohammed Pweza worn the Kinondo ward by-election held on Wednesday.

Pweza achieved 3,412 votes followed by his close opponent who was Juma Maone with 2,704 votes.

Other candidates included Mr. Chula Kazole of DPK who gained only 28 votes while Mr. Juma Abdallah Mambo of NVP came in fourth with 20 votes.

The highly contested by-election was marked by low turnout where only 6,114 votes were cast out of the 11,014 total number of registered voters.

Pweza was declared the winner by Msambweni IEBC returning officer Yusuf Abu-Bakr.

In his speech, Pweza congratulated Kinondo people by saying they have chosen a person who will address their problems.

“Above all I thank God and I appreciate everybody for the victory and promise to serve all without discrimination,” he said.

Mr. Omar was accompanied by ODM nominated senator Dr. Agnes Zani, Kwale Woman Rep Zuleikha Hassan Juma, Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori, Speaker Sammy Ruwa and a host of MCAs allied to ODM.

The jubilant leaders said that ODM’s victory in the mini-poll was a confirmation that Kwale is still an ODM stronghold.
