Nairobi, KENYA: The security detail of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman

Wafula Chebukati together with other two commissioners has been withdrawn
indefinitely.

In a statement to the media, IEBC Communications Manager Andrew Limo said armed drivers attached to Chebukati, Pro. Ayub Guliye and Boya Mulu had also been recalled On Tuesday morning without prior notice.

“The Commission has this morning learnt that the security (including armed drivers) of the
Chairman and Commissioners Prof. Ayub Guliye and Boya Mulu have been withdrawn.”Limo said

He said that the commission has written to the Inspector General of police Joseph Boinett to ascertain reasons as to why such action was undertaken.

The statement indicated that withdrawal of security is likely to expose the chairman and the Commissioners to security risk.

“The action undermines their effectiveness in executing the work of the Commission,” read the statement.

Withdrawal of security of IEBC boss is an aftermath of mass resignations of Commissioners Margret Mwachanya ,Paul Turgat and vice chair Connie Nkatha Maina on Monday ,while another IEBC commissioner Rosylene Akombe resigned last year October.
