Kilifi,KENYA:Residents of Mrima wa Ndege Location in Ganze Sub-county-Kilifi County have vowed to kill a lion that has been threatening the lives of people and attacking livestock.

It is alleged that the killer lion escaped from Tsavo East National park and since then it has killed cattle and goats in the area.

The residents have now staged a hunt for the lion claiming Kenya Wildlife Service accusing the Kenya wildlife service of not doing their jobs.

Area Chief Samson Chai, told Baraka FM that since word went round that  the lion had escaped, there has been fear and the community has been forced to escort their children to school.

“This lion has caused a lot of tension in this area,” Chai said.

“Children have now go to  schools late and attend to classes irregularly. There has also been fear amongst the residents that it might cause more damage to livestock as it has already killed some cattle and goats,” he added.

Ganze Member of Parliament Teddy Mwambire said during a hunt for the lion that, Kenya Wildlife Service had failed to do their job responsibly.

He said since the news of the lion in the area broke, they have shown little effort to take it back to the national park.

“KWS has failed totally because we have not seen them here since the news came up,” Mwambire said.

“I want to assure them that if we get this killer lion we will kill it as it has already caused some families losses by killing their livestock,” he added.

Human wildlife conflict has always been a problem in Ganze Sub-county owing to its proximity to the Tsavo national park.

Residents have been crying foul over destruction of their crops by Elephants and they claim that they rarely receive compensation when their elephants are destroyed.

However efforts to get a comment from the KWS side proved futile.
