Nairobi,KENYA:The Kenyatta national hospital CEO Lily Koros and the director of clinical services Benard Githae have been sent on compulsory leave.

This is according to a directive given by the health CS Sicily Kariuki following an incident in which a neuro surgeon opened the skull of a wrong patient following a mix-up.

Speaking on Friday at the hospital premises, Sicily said Koros would be replaced by John Ongechi while Githae would be replaced by Thomas Mutie both on an acting capacity.

“The mistake was caused by a mixup in the names and tags and that’s how the wrong patient ended up being wheeled to the theatre” Sicily Kariuki said in a statement.

Karuiki further said that he had visited the affected patient who was recuperating on well.

Lily and Ben join the list of four other staff who have been suspended over the incident.
