Court orders MTTI student to work free over possession of bhang

Mombasa,KENYA:A Mombasa court on Tuesday ordered a first-year student at Mombasa Technical Training Institute to work for two weeks without payment in the same institution after he pleaded guilty to the offence of being in possession of a narcotic drug.

Mombasa Senior resident magistrate Edigah Kagoni ruled that Benson Gift Mutua will work at the institution where he studies for 14 days as a punishment for being in possession of a roll of bhang.

In his mitigation, Mr.Mutua requested the court to forgive him since he was a first offender.

“Your honour Am a first year student at MTTI and I would like to continue with my studies, please forgive me I will not repeat again,” said Mutua.

Mutua had pleaded guilty to the offence of being in possession of a roll of bhang on 15th February in Mombasa.
