Shimba Hills, Waa Girls crowned Coast Region Chapa Dimba champions

Mombasa, KENYA: Shimba Hills and Waa Girls both from Kwale County will represent Coast Region in the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom youth football tournament nationals scheduled for March 23 in Nairobi.

Shimba Hills earned a place after emerging boy’s champions following a 3-0 victory over Breezham FC with Waa Girls registering the same score-line over Solwogidi from Malindi in the finals held on Sunday at Shanzu TTC.

Each winning team scooped Sh200,000 while their respective players each received a phone worth Sh10,000 courtesy of Safaricom who are the sponsors of the tournament.

Losing teams were awarded Sh100,000 while their players took home phones costing Sh6,000.

Shimba Hills and Waa Girls who toppled Shimanzi FC and St. Johns Kaloleni in the semis to qualify for the finals will now battle teams from other regions in the national finals starting 23-25 March.

Winners of the Chapa Dimba tournament will walk away with Sh1 million each and an opportunity to go for an international training and mentorship camp in London in April 2018.

Over 380 games were played across Coast region with 166 teams taking part in the competition that kicked off with group stages on 2nd December 2017.
