Body of 22-yr-old man found floating on River Tana

Tana River, KENYA: A body of A 22-year-old man was found floating on River Tana near Bondeni village Tana River County on Monday.

Confirming the incident to Baraka FM, Galole OCPD Mr. Sylvester Githungo said the body was found after he received a report that a man went missing on Friday.

Mr. Githungo said that the body had been taken to Malindi Mortuary for a postmortem to establish the cause of his death.

“We received the information just a day after we had got reports that a man had gone missing on Friday last week, but we have transferred the body to Malindi hospital mortuary for postmortem to investigate the cause of the incident,” uttered the OCPD.

The man was allegedly not from the area or from the county, but he had been with the locals for a long period.

According to one of the residents who sought anonymity, the man had been involving himself in small jobs in Handampia and Mikinduni Villages of Galole Tana River County.

“That man has been like a friend to the community but all over a sudden we’re shocked for his demise after his few days of absence,” the source said.

The source knew him (the deceased) with his single name “Jefa” saying he had been working in their village of Mikinduni before residing in Handampia.

In a different incident, a kid on Sunday died after being bitten by a rabies-infected dog in Wayu Village of Galole Tana River County.

The child was with his mother when the incident occurred, where also the woman was attacked but she survived.

The OCPD Mr. Sylvester Githungo, told Baraka Fm that the body was taken for a postmortem at Hola referral hospital before being taken back for burial.

“We took the body for a postmortem at Hola hospital because the body is from a Muslim community we took him back for burial,” He said.

We already killed the infected dog which had started spreading rabies to other dogs in the area and we are on move to find the infected dogs to kill them.
