Ronaldo equals Messi’s Ballon d’Or record

Paris, FRANCE: Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is the 2017 Ballon d’Or winner.

This is the fifth time that the Portuguese captain claims the accolade equaling the record set by his main challenger Lionel Messi of Barcelona who came second in the event held in Paris France Thursday night.

It’s the second straight year Ronaldo has won the award presented by France Football, and he was also named the Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2016-17 in October.

Ronaldo scored 42 goals across all competitions during the 2016-17 season, leading Real Madrid to a La Liga and Champions League double.

The former Manchester United player also helped Portugal to win Euro 2016 where they beat hosts France 1-0 in the finals.
