Nairobi,KENYA:Wajir East Member of Parliament Rashid Kassim has appealed to the government to continue with the mitigation measures to combat the effects of the current drought affecting some parts of the country.

Speaking at a press conference at parliamentary buildings on Friday,Kassim said that  they have lost a big number  of livestock due to prevailing drought and now say the initiative of food rationing by the government is not enough.

The MP also requested the government to urgently provide immediate solutions to the drought saying this term the children had not gone to school due to lack of school fees as their parents depend on the livestock as a source of income.

The lawmaker say the drought has also caused conflicts among herders occasioning frequent frictions due to scramble for pasture.

At the same time the mp condemned the killing of 300 cattle in Laikipia saying the government should have used alternative means instead of the senseless killing.
