KDF kills two suspected Alshabaab militants in Lamu

Lamu,KENYA:Two Al-Shabaab militants were on Thursday evening killed by KDF troops conducting the multi-agency security operation Linda Boni in Lamu County.

The two were killed at Nyatha area in Witu division Lamu West at around 6pm by soldiers who were on patrol in the area.

Confirming the same,KDF spokesperson David Obonyo said the soldiers were on their normal patrol routine in the area when they came in contact with the heavily armed militants after which a fire exchange ensued.

The soldiers neutralized (killed) two of the militants on the spot.

“At around 6pm Thursday, KDF troops on patrol at an area called Nyatha in Witu, Lamu County, engaged and killed two Al-Shabaab terrorists. As we speak, the fight and general operation is still ongoing. I will give more updates later,”said Obonyo.

He said the other militants fled into the Boni forest after they were overpowered by the KDF troops.

Following the incident,an intensive crackdown for the militants has been launched by the KDF in Nyatha,Witu and neighboring areas in such for the militants who fled.

The Boni Enclave Campaign director Joseph Kanyiri said the operation had gained momentum and that it will stay on until the threat of Alshabaab militants who have been terrorizing the area have been neutralized.

“We are in hot pursuit of the militants in the areas mentioned.Commenting at this moment will is impossible as the security around the operation is rather delicate.We shall give comprehensive reports later,”said Kanyiri.

Meanwhile residents of Maisha Masha,Jipendeni,Majembeni,Jima and Poromoko villages didn’t sleep a wink following the constant blasts of gunshots and explosions believed to be between the KDF and the Alshabaab around their villages.

“We couldn’t sleep last time.There was too much noise from the explosions and gunshots.planes have been roaming the skies all night.Its not something we are used to and that’s why we are worried,”said Charo Mitsanze on Poromoko.

This comes just a week after KDF soldiers killed four Alshabaab militants at Mararani area on October 23 and recovered four AK47 riffles, six magazines, three grenades, three car batteries, rolls of cables, three mobile phones and assorted food stuffs following a successful raid on their camp.

On October another five Alshabaab militants were killed by KDF soldiers at Bodhei area on the Lamu-Garissa border and recovered six AK-47 assault rifles, 321 bullets, three grenades and explosives.
