Mombasa,KENYA: Anti-terror police in Mombasa (ATPU) have arrested a woman suspected to have links with terrorism activities.
The suspect identified as Hamidah Abubakar awadh, 48, was arrested Saturday morning at her home in Kibokoni old town in Mombasa adjacent to central police station.
Police sources told Baraka fm the woman has been on police watch as she has links with terrorists operating in Somalia.
“We establish that she had been communicating with the suspects whom we have been looking, the suspects are outside the country and we believe this woman will give us more information we are looking,”said an officer who was in the operation.
More than 100 anti-terror police and GSU officers surrounded her house in an operation which started midnight and lasted for two hours, family said.
Family members told Baraka fm, the officers confiscated 6 mobile phones, CDs and other electronics.
The family protested the arrest of Awadh saying she had no links with criminal activities.She is being held at Port police.
We condemn the police who took our sister, she has been looking her younger brother who is bed ridden, we are perturbed with what happened,”said Fatiya Mbara.
Mombasa urban police boss Lucas Ogara when contacted he said the operation was carried out by the county commander and he has no information.
“Contact the county commander he has more details,”said Mr Ogara.
