Mombasa, KENYA: Anti-riot police officers were on Monday deployed at the CBD  in Mombasa to stop demonstrators from accessing the area.

Police fired teargas to disperse the demonstrators who had converged at Uhuru garden, along  moi avenue.

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif and Changamwe MP Omar mwinyi had to scamper for  safety as police fired teargas at them.

The two had attracted hundreds of NASA followers.

Business were shut down as police battled with demonstrators along the Moi avenue road.

Mombasa urban police boss Lucas Ogara led the police officers in dealing with the demonstrators.
