Police recover stolen AK47 rifle in Kwale

Kwale, KENYA: Police have recovered an AK47 riffle in mnyenzeni area, Kasemeni ward kinango sub-county.

According to Kwale acting county commission Mwangi Kahiro the gun is believed to be among the two stolen during a church attack in Ukunda few weeks ago.

Mr. Kahiro on Wednesday said that the gun was found abandoned at the area chiefs door on Tuesday morning, following a man hunt to find the culprits.

However, the Area chief Benson Kokoi said that he got wind of the existence of the gun through grape vine and he quickly alerted the officers in charge.

“We got information from some members of the public that there is a gun in that area.” Said Kokoi.

“I made follow ups and talked to the parents of the suspect and gave them a sturn warning” he added.

Incidents of insecurity in Kwale county have recently been on the rise especially in Ukunda, the recent one being the Technical university of Kwale attack which saw two ladies die.
