Fish trader shot in Mombasa robbery incident

Mombasa,KENYA: Police in Majengo, Mombasa have mounted a search for armed robbers who attacked and shot a businessman and his driver before making away with unspecified amount of money in cash.

The Injured men have been identified as Ali Mohammed and his driver Najib Mohammed.

The two were rushed to MEWA hospital where they have been admitted, set to undergo surgery.

A bullet has lodge in the hip on Mohammed Ali.

The victim according to police is a fish trader in Majengo. Both were shot in the legs by armed men.

Police at the scene recovered 9 spend cartridges and one live bullet.

The gunmen who were armed with an Ak -47 rifle, also escaped with a bag suspected to contain money, according to police.

Mombasa Deputy County commissioner Mohammed Salim said the incident happened at around 12:30 pm when two gunmen approached the businessmen after he had sold the fish and shot him in the hip after a scuffle.

“He has just sold the fish; two gunmen in a motorcycle approached the man and demanded the cash. He shot him after a scuffle injuring him,” said Mr Salim.

Investigators at the scene told Baraka FM the incident might have been an inside job. The gunmen had parked their motorcycle in the area waiting for the businessmen for more than an hour.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
