Kharub Ibrahim elected Mombasa county speaker unopposed

Mombasa,KENYA:Mombasa businessman Kharub Ibrahim was on Wednesday elected as the Mombasa county assembly speaker.

Kharub was elected unopposed as 11 other candidates who included two women were  locked out over late submission of applications.

Former mayor Ahmed Mundhari was among those locked out for submitting their papers late re.

Kharub will be deputized by the Port Reitz MCA Fadhili Mwakarani Mwalimu who was also elected unopposed.

The speaker election exercise took place immediately after the MCA’s were sworn in by the county assembly clerk Salim Juma.

There 2nd county assembly will compose of 42 members 30 elected while 12 are nominated.

Mtongwe MCA Hamisi Mwidani is set to retain  the leader of majority position.

The leader of minority and the chief whip are set to be known later.
