Turkana Mps urge President to consider Ekwe for senate speaker

Nairobi,KENYA:Turkana legislators have called on president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to consider the re election of the 11th parliamentary senate speaker Ekwe Ethuro in the 12th parliament.

In a media briefing at parliamentary buildings led by Turkana women rep Joyce Emanikor and Loima legislator Jeremiah Lomurukai urged the two to lobby their members of Jubilee to vote for Ethuro whom they termed as a father of devolution after the 2010 constitutional dispensation.

They said that Ethuro deserves the seat following his track record of handling senatorial matters diligently.

Loima legislator on ODM ticket Jeremiah Lomurukai said he will urge opposition chief Raila Odinga to lobby opposition allied senators to vote for Ethuro in bid to clinch the seat.

They said a such move is one way of bridging gap of which encompasses marginalised communities.

Other House leaders in the ruling party could secure their positions except Senate Speaker
Ekwee Ethuro, whose seat has attracted at least three other candidates including former Kisii senator Chris Obure.
