I was defeated fairly, says outgoing Governor

Taita Taveta,KENYA: Outgoing Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu has trashed the allegations that he has gone to court to challenge the victory of the governor elect Granton Samboja.

Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony in his residence in Taveta sub county on Sunday, Mruttu said that he had accepted the results announced by the IEBC officials as they match those collected by his agents.

This follows a news extract by a popular media agency in the country that enlisted Mruttu among ten gubernatorial candidates who lost in the just concluded general election and  who were  opting to challenge the election results in court.

He urged members of the press to engage their subjects thoroughly before publishing any content to avoid unnecessary tension among residents.

Mruttu pledged to support the governor elect Granton Samboja .

“I am ready to serve the County at any capacity when called upon. I am ready and willing to use my knowledge for the benefit of the County residents,” said Mruttu.

Leaders present praised Governor Mruttu for accommodating other people’s opinions even when they least expected.

“When I was elected with the URP ticket, I didn’t really expect much support as I was the only one in the County representing the party. But the governor really supported me to implement a good number of life touching projects in Marungu,” said Marungu ward MCA Waweru Kang’ethe.

The function was attended by residents of all walks of life who praised the governor for his dedication towards serving the mwananchi.

Mruttu who was vying as an independent candidate lost the seat to Wiper party’s Granton Samboja with a margin of over 17,000 votes.
