Gor Mahia set for historical clash with Everton

Dar es Salaam,TANZANIA: The long wait is finally over and now it’s just some hours before Gor Mahia write history by coming up against English Premier League club Everton in a friendly match in the neighboring country Tanzania.

Gor Mahia fans who never disappoint when it comes to rallying behind their team have already painted green the streets of Dar es Salaam ahead of the duel slated for 1700hrs local time in the 60,000-seater Stadium.

K’ogalo got the opportunity to play Everton after winning the inaugural Sportpesa Super Cup held in Tanzania last month, where they stunned perennial rivals AFC Leopards 3-0 in the finals.

Meanwhile, Everton who banks on the clash to prepare for forthcoming English Premier League new season, play the match as result of the sponsorship agreement between them and Sportpesa who also sponsors Gor Mahia.

The highlight of the match though, is the fact that England captain Wayne Rooney will be featuring for Everton days after returning back to the club where he started his glittering career.

Rooney who is the all-time top scorer for his country and Manchester United, jetted in Tanzania with his Everton teammates on Wednesday and manager Ronal Koeman has hinted he will only play for 45 minutes.

That said, irrespective of the result, the clash is a lifetime experience to Gor Mahia players who some of the players they will be tussling with today are their idols.
