NGOs calls on IEBC not to postpone August elections

Nairobi, KENYA: Non governmental organizational council has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission not to postpone the August polls due to high courts’ decision to quash printing of presidential ballot papers.

During a press briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday, NGO council chair Stephen Cheboi said that there is need for IEBC to fast track the issue of printing of ballot papers to avert a looming a stalemate in the August polls; following the fact that time is running out as the country gears up to the election.

“We call upon the IEBC to fully prepare to handle the elections on the 8th of August as per schedule, to ensure that presidential ballot papers are printed on time to avoid putting the country in panic and tension.” Cheboi said.

Cheboi urged politicians to desist from uttering statements which amount to hate speech warning that such statements might plunge the country into a crisis.

He reiterated that NGOs inclined towards governance will continue to spread the message of peace across the country to uphold tranquility a component required during this electioneering period.

“ Kenyans should know that we are one, elections come and go but we will always remain and our lives have moved on ,we should be cautious on how we handle election issues and choose w8iisely credible leaders.” Ongesa said.
