Nairobi, KENYA: The Salaries and Remuneration Commission on Monday announced reviewed salary structures for state officers including President, Deputy, president, Governors, MCAs and many others.
SRC Chairperson Sarah Serem said the reviewed salary structures for 2017-2022 as per the 4-year cycle, were settled on in order to reduce the burden on taxpayers.
In the new structure released by Sarah Serem, the Presidenthis Deputy will earn a monthly gross of Sh1.4million and Sh1.2million respectively down from Sh1.650 and Sh1.40million.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretaries will get a salary of Sh924,000 from Sh1,056, 000 and Permanent Secretaries will be earning Sh.765,000 from Sh874,000.
Members of Parliament are expected to earn Sh.621,000 from about Sh710,000 while the Speakers of both Houses are to take home Sh 1.155 million each from the previous Sh1.32 million.
MPs sitting allowances, mileage allowances and special responsibility allowances have all also been scrapped away by the SRC, after a series of complaints from the public.
Their deputies are set to earn sh.924.000 and the Leader of majority and Minority to take home Sh765.188.
MCAs will carry home Sh144,000.
According to Sarah Serem, the reviewed salary structure will be implemented after the General Election.
Under the new structure review by SRC and the government is expected to save Sh.8 billion.
“We will draw savings of upto 8 billion from the money accruing to the new salary structure on the various slashes on the categories of payments,” said Serem.
