Raila calls for removal of CS Bett and Kiunjiri over maize shortage

Nairobi,KENYA:NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga has called on president Uhuru Kenyatta to fire the cabinet secretary for agriculture and that of devolution over the  scarcity of maize flour currently being experienced in the country.

Addressing the press on Wednesday in his office, Raila expressed his disappointment on agriculture CS Willy Bett and his devolution and planning  colleague Mwangi Kiunjiri for failing to give alternative options   to curb the shortages of maize in the country.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta to immediately fire agriculture CS and his PS and that of devolution and planning for deliberately misguiding Kenyans on the famine situation “said Raila.

However, the former prime minister has urged the government not to allow the millers to order maize directly from outside the country.

He also urged the government to import maize from Ethiopia terming it as cost effective.

This comes few weeks after a public outcry on the surging prices of basic commodities which prompted the government to impose a standard price for maize flour .
