Nyeri Combined to entertain Gor Mahia on Madaraka Day

Nairobi, KENYA: Kenyan Premier League record winners Gor Mahia will play a selected Nyeri County team, Nyeri Combined, at the Kabiruini Stadium on 1st June.

Dubbed Madaraka Day Cup, the match will be held to commemorate the Madaraka Day, the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1964.

Nyeri is set to become the third county after Nakuru and Machakos to host a national celebration being held outside Nairobi, an event to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Meanwhile Sports ministry said the two clubs were picked by the Government to contest for the Cup in order to promote national cohesion as the country heads to the August national polls.

According to Principal Sports Officer, Carolyne Kariuki, apart from the tie other activities lined up by the State on Madaraka Day at the venue include Amputee football and volleyball.
