Mombasa,KENYA: A section the modern standard Gauge Railway SGR has reportedly been vandalized in Mariakani.
The guard rail on one side of the railway line appears to have been cut and joints loosen.
Kenya Railways Director Atanas Maina said police are investigating whether the incident is sabotage.
“Police are investigating what happened to see if its a malicious act,” he said.
This comes as president Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to officially launch the project next week.
He is also expected to board the train from Mombasa to Nairobi in its maiden trip.
In 2016, a section of SGR wall caved in following heavy rains in Makueni County.
