Celebrated actor Sir Roger Moore popular known as James Bond, has as died in Switzerland at the age of 89 after a short battle with cancer, his family has announced.

Sir Roger Moores family confirmed the death through a statement released on twitter on Tuesday night by the family members.

“It is With the heaviest of hearts that we must announce that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer. ” Read the statement from the children.

Sir Roger is survived by his three children Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian and wife Kristina Tholstrup.

The star, who took the character of James Bond in a an interesting direction than his predecessor Sean Connery, will have a private funeral in Monaco in accordance with his wishes, his children said.

“The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone,” read the statement from the children.

“Thank you pops fro being you and for being so very special to many people. Our thoughts must now turn to supporting Kristina at this difficult time.” continued the statement.

Aside from his famous Bond role, Moore was also known for TV series The Persuaders and The Saint. He was worked as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador until his death.

He is also remembered for his brainy quotes such as:

“Teach love, generosity, good manners and some of that will drift from the classroom to the home and who knows, the children will be educating the parents.”

Some of the Bond movies he featured in include: Live and Let Die (1973), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983) and A View to a Kill (1985).
