Suspected gangsters shoot dead businessman in Mombasa


Mombasa,KENYA: Suspected  gunmen shot dead a businessman and made away with unknown amount of money in Bamburi,  Mombasa on Saturday night, police said.

The businessman 35 whose name has been withheld, was at his business premises with his wife and his assistant when two gunmen don in masks confronted them ,one of the gunmen was armed with a pistol.

Kisauni police Chief Christopher Rotich said there was a brief confrontation before one of them pulled out a pistol and shot the businessman in the chest. The businessman was rushed to Jocham hospital but died on arrival.

“The gun men arrived on foot and ordered everyone to lie down.An employee who was with the man laid down but the businessman confronted the suspects asking them what was the reason for them to do so.He was shot as the men made away with all the money, “said Mr Rotich.

He said the businessman who runs a number of business ventures was at his butchery tabulating the days records  when the incident happened .His wife was spared by the gunmen.

He said his officers are in hot pursuit of the suspects who are at large now but armed, asking residents to volunteer information about them.
