Mijikenda elders want Mwaguya as the ODM senatorial candidate in Mombasa

Mombasa,KENYA:The Mijikenda community in Mombasa has issued an ultimatum of seventy two hours to the the ODM nomination board to officially declare senatorial aspirant Hamisi Mwaguya as the overall winner of the Mombasa senatorial seat.

Speaking to journalists at Majaoni in Utange at the Karisa Maitha residence on Tuesday, the Secretary General of the Mijikenda Community Kitsao Ngonyo said if the board would not declare Mwaguya as the winner then the community will think of another move including decamping from the ODM party.

Ngonyo added that the community wants to see justice being practiced in equal measure after the aspirant clinched the coveted public office.

“We want to see justice taking its course. We are giving the ODM nomination board 72 hours to announce the winner of the senatorial seat in Mombasa County.” Ngonyo said.

He uttered that the community voted in the senator with an intension of taking him in office but expressed their surprise that the winner has not been announced four days after the nominations.

On the other hand, Kitsao Swaleh the deputy chairman of the community expressed his disbelief concerning the issue and claimed that there must be a hidden agenda and and urged the ODM nomination board to publicly make the announcement.

The official noted that they elected the aspirant saying that he proved beyond doubt that he is the only person who is capable of bringing  the necessary change that the community required.

“We urge the nomination board to announce the winner of the seat. Our community elected Mwaguya without any shed of doubt for he is the only person who can bring us change in this community.” Swaleh exclaimed.

Ngonyo stated that the community will reject any move by the board of announcing any other candidate apart from Hamisi Mwaguya saying that he is the duly elected senatorial aspirant.

At the same time, Katana Bakari the community chairperson stressed that the community wants a solution to the problem as it is worried that someone else may be mentioned as the winner.

He said that the Mijikenda Community has taken a firm decision on who the winner is adding that he should be declared with immediate effect.

The elders participated in a peaceful demonstration demanding for the immediate official declaration of the aspirant as the winner of the seat.

The ODM nominations were conducted on Saturday at the coast but the board has not yet announced the results in some of the coast counties.
