Mombasa,KENYA: Nyali MP Hezron Awiti on Tuesday launched his own party, the Vibrant Party of Kenya, which he will use to vie for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat come August 2017.

While launching the party at wild waters in Mombasa, Awiti said he decided to launch his party after he was shortchanged in his former party the Wiper Democratic Movement.

Awiti has accused the Mombasa county senator Hassan Omar and the Wiper party officials of shortchanging him and announcing Omar as the Mombasa gubernatorial seat flag bearer without  consulting others.

“After the negotiations he (Hassan Omar) told me he was no longer interested in the gubernatorial seat only for him to announce himself as the flag bearer few days later.” Awiti said.

Awiti has said that his party would support everyone regardless of tribe and religion. And party would seek to improve Education, business and provide more opportunities for the disabled in Mombasa County.

Last month, during a meeting that was organised among the Wiper officials, Omar and Awiti had each selected three emissaries to negotiate on their behalf.

Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka barred the two from attending the discussions.

After each team stood its ground, Kalonzo reportedly ordered that Awiti and Omar must meet and decide amongst them who will be flagbearer.

The two are reported not to have met with both remaining adamant on being the governor candidate.

Meanwhile, Awiti declined to mention the Presidential candidate that his new party would be supporting in August and neither has he mentioned his running mate.
