Mombasa,KENYA:Police on Saturday arrested the suspected leader of the deadly Watalia criminal gang in the Likoni area of Mombasa.
Nicholas Sabato Wandera ,17,also known as soldier was arrested by a special team of police officers who had been tracking the suspect for long. He was arrested in Vyemani area.
The arrest comes barely a week after 13 members of the criminal gang were arrested in Celtel area of Likoni.
Police term the arrest as the “conclusion”of coordinated manhunt of others members of the same gang in the sub-county.
“We have been interrogating the suspects we seized last week and they gave us vital information which led to arrest of the suspect,”Likoni police boss Willy Simba said.
Sources probing the suspect told Baraka fm he was the leader of 25 “battalion army” all armed with crude weapons.
The gang has been grappling with law enforcers as the number of criminal gangs in the area rise day by day.
Earlier,Mr samba told reporters that the security team was doing all it can to tame the gang ahead of the August general election.
The members arrested last week were armed with machetes and knives.
