Mombasa, KENYA:A suspected thief was on Tuesday killed while his accomplices escaped in Mshomoroni Kadongo area after trying to steal a woman’s cellphone.
The suspect identified as Rashid badi Gambari alias Shipaka was stoned to death by an irate mob who descended on him.
According to a local administrator in the area, the suspect had tried to snatch a woman’s phone who was going to work during morning hours but the woman managed to raise an alarm attracting a mob.
“The suspect is well known in the area,he is a thief known by everybody. He had just snatched the phone but the woman raised an alarm attracting a mob who rained on him killing him on the spot,” said the local administrator.
“They were two suspects but one of them escaped after the public chased them. Shipaka was caught up and beaten to death,” added the administrator.
Team of Police officers were called to the scene to collect his remains which were later taken to Coast General morgue.
