Mombasa, KENYA: Undercover police have arrested fake ‘NIS’ officer who has been on the run for almost a year now.

The suspect who was once arrested  by CID officers and handcuffed to an electric pole, was on Wednesday arrested in Likoni sub-county after allegedly soliciting sh.230,000 from a businessman.

He had claimed to be a spy working with National Intelligence Service department, claims which police have refuted.

He had identified himself as Rajab Mwamchiri, based in Ngong area in Nairobi.

A police source aware of investigations told Baraka FM the suspect was arrested by detectives after the businessman reported the matter to police.

A manhunt was launched late last year, after Baraka FM published a story on how his fellow officers arrested him and tied him to an electric pole.

His name and photograph was widely shared by security agencies and a warrant of arrest was issued. The suspect went missing after realizing he was being looked for by the police.

Police had earlier ruled that the suspect was a dangerous conman and a robber, after his name was not found in the list of the officers in the station he had claimed he was based at.

Likoni police chief Willy Simba confirmed the arrest to Baraka FM but refused to give any extra information.
