Terror suspects set free in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: Three of seven terror suspects arrested in Mombasa have been released.

Mombasa Urban police boss Lucas Ogara told reporters on Sunday that the trio were released after police found them with no  connection to terror related activities.

“After we interrogated them we found they have no connection with terrorism activities but investigations are pending,” said the police boss.

He said the other four are still being held and they are probably to appear in court on Monday.

The suspects released are Shariffa Faiz,Faiz Hyder Mohammed and Rashid Mohammed Rashid.

They were nabbed at Kizingo and Mtwapa on Saturday morning following a joint operation by anti-terror police from Mombasa and Nairobi and locked up at Port police.

Urban OCPD Lucas Ogara told baraka FM  two of the suspects had just jetted back from Syria and they were arrested following intelligence reports.

The two  suspects have been identified as Nasra Hyder Faiz and Salim Mohammed Rashid.

The other six suspect’s are relatives of the two, whom police say played a major role in aiding them to come back after undergoing military training.

Mr Ogara said the investigators wanted to know how the two  suspect’s ended up in Syria and who were behind their travelling arrangements.

The two had earlier been arrested by Turkish Authorities in November 2016, who then informed Kenyan security agencies of their presence in Turkey, where they were being held.

Police say the two suspects flew into the country on Wednesday and they believe they were planning to conduct attacks.
