Police seize bhang valued at sh.2 M in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Mombasa on Sunday seized bhang valued at sh. 2 Million in Tudor estate stored inside a room suspected to be a drug store room.

Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara said the bhang which is more than 500 kg, was found stashed in five bags and that one suspect is in police custody where  he is being interrogated.

Ogara said police were acting on a tip off from the public and they stormed the house where the bhang was being stored at around 12 am on Saturday.

The arrest of the suspect and seizure of the bhang in the city comes barely a week after police netted heroine worth sh.150 million.

“We will continue with the war and those thinking they will win,I want to make it clear that the government will win,” said the police boss.

Meanwhile, Police in likoni  arrested two people suspected to be engaging in the drug business  as the war on drugs intensifies.

One suspect identified as said Mohammed alias Suaz, however managed to dodge the  police.

The two suspects arrested are Bibi Mohammed,  Suaz;s wife and Abdallah Ali;they were arrested by anti-narcotics police in their home in Shikaadabu area on Saturday night.

Likoni DCIO Henry Ndombi who led other officers during the raid, said the suspect seems to have changed tactics as no single drugs were found and he might have moved the drugs in unknown place.

Police searched the house with an aid of Two sniffer dogs in an operation which lasted for three hours.

Police said the escaped suspect has been in police radar for a long time engaging in the drug business.

Mr Ndombi said the wife of the suspect, earlier warned his husband after getting information that a sniffer dog had been seen crossing the ferry channel,he added the they were acting on intelligence reports of the suspect engaging in drug business.

“We found a text message in her cell phone warning him  that officers and a sniffer dogs had been seen crossing the channel,” said the DCi boss.

He noted that a manhunt has been launched and very soon the suspect will be apprehended.

The two suspects arrested are being held at Likoni police station awaiting to be arraigned in court on Monday.
