Mombasa, KENYA: Kenya Ports Authority KPA men’s team took a huge step in its bid to win maiden Kenya Basketball Federation KBF title after it trounced Cooperative Bank in the first two of the best fives of the play-off finals played at Makande Indoor Gymnasium, Mombasa over the weekend.

Salim Ali and Martin Kitonga starred with 17 and 16 points respectively to help the Dockers claim a slim 71-69 victory over the Bankers in Game Two played on Sunday.

The success came on the back of a 60-56 win in Game One staged on Saturday where Kitonga bagged 13 points with Arou Ramadhan spicing up with 12 points for KPA.

William Mayiel and James Mwangi were the top performers for Cooperative Bank with 12 points each.

Things were however not rosy for KPA in women’s category where they surrendered a 25-21 first half lead to lose 56-55 to Equity Bank in Game Two.

The result left the two teams tied 1-1 heading to Game Three to be held at Nyayo, Nairobi, next weekend, KPA having claimed Game One 60-43 on Saturday.
