Mombasa, KENYA: A Mombasa court on Thursday summoned the Mombasa District Criminal Investigation Officer to explain why two suspects arrested on Tuesday were not charged according to the statutory period.
Mombasa senior principal Henry Nyakweba ordered the DCIO to come and explain why Maurice Kahindi and Chaka Tsuma were arraigned in a court on Thursday past 24 hours upon their arrest.
“Before the plea is taken I want the DCIO to appear in court tomorrow on Friday and explain why he did not charge the suspects within time,” he said.
The two accused persons allegedly stole sh.2,700,000 from a company based in Mombasa.
It is alleged that on diverse dates between 7th June and 5th January 2017, in Mombasa county, jointly with others not before court, being servants of Kamal Anantroy Shankerial Bhatt, stole from the quoted amount of cash, which came to their possession by virtue of employment.
Nyakweba ordered the two suspects released on a bond of sh.1 million each.
