Woman arraigned in court with explosives linked to terror suspect in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: A woman whose husband is linked to terrorism in the county has been detained at Mombasa Port police station for allegedly possessing explosives.

Feruz Hamid Abubakar was arrested on Saturday by Anti terror police at her home in Bondeni area, Mombasa County, following intelligent reports which linked her to terrorist activities in the country.

State counsel Mr. Eugine Wangila moved to court seeking for Feruz to be detained for two weeks to enable anti terror police complete investigations before she is charged.

The court is also set to hear an application filed by officer in -charge of Shimo la Tewa prison seeking Feruz’s husband Nassir Ali Skanda transferred to Manyani prison over security concerns.

Mr. Skanda is accused of committing the act of terrorism in Nyali Reef Hotel in May 2014, where he allegedly destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

While delivering his ruling, Mombasa principal magistrate Henry Nyakweba ordered police to complete investigations and charge Feruz on Wednesday.
