Lamu, KENYA: The chairperson of the Jubilee Interim Committee in Lamu county Abdulrehman Hilal has assured all politicians of free and fair nominations ahead of 2017.
Hilal denied rumor mills making rounds from some Jubilee party members in the county that party nominations might be influenced by powerful and influential politicians in Lamu.
Speaking in Lamu on Wednesday, Hilal said the committee was keen on ensuring that individuals are only nominated based on merit and fairness.
He warned politicians who claim to have influence, against interfering with the mandate of the committee and insisted that they won’t be swayed by such individuals.
“We witnessed it during the election of the interim Jubilee officials recently. Some politicians were trying to forcefully fix names of the people they wanted in the committee but people were vigilant enough and so they didn’t win. We are waiting for nominations and we assure all that they will equally be free and fair,” said Hilal.
