Nairobi, KENYA: The selection panel for the appointment of IEBC commissioners has downplayed unsuitability allegations leveled against appointment of Wafula Chebukati as IEBC chair.

In a media briefing in Nairobi on Tuesday, the select panel chairperson Bernadette Musundi dispelled such allegations which also involves appointment of commissioner Consolata Nkatha Maina ,saying that the panel did not get any complains in regard to integrity issues touching on the two.

“The information contained in the allegations was however never brought to the attention of the selection panel by any person through out the process.”Musundi said.

Musundi said that relevant government agencies including Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the Kenya Revenue Authority cleared them.

She urged the public to direct their further complaints against Chebukati and Maina , to Justice and legal affairs committee in the National Assembly which is handling the nominees names before it.

“The National Assembly through the Departmental committee on Justice and Legal Affairs has invited the public to submit any representations that may have on the suitability  of thee nominees.”She said.

There has been concerns on the appointment of Chebukati which people reportedly argue that other competitors had an upper hand in the interview and the panel did not factor in, regional balance following the fact that IEBC chief executive officer Ezra Chiloba hails from the same region with Chebukati.
