The government has started issuing Huduma cards.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i kicked off the phased issuance of the cards on Wednesday in Machakos and Kiambu Counties.

“The phased exercise, will in the next 2-3wks organize and send the cards to various Huduma registration points where recipients will receive SMS notifications to collect their card within a month of notification,” said CS Matiang’i.

The Interior CS said that failure to collect the cards within a month after getting the text message will lead to them being returned to Nairobi for storage.

“In recognition of Covid 19 challenges, GoK will give 1 year, until 12 Dec 2021, before Huduma Namba becomes mandatory to access government services,” said Matiang’i.

Mass registration for those who did not register for Huduma Namba will begin in April 2021.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta were the first Kenyans to receive the sample Huduma cards during the Mashujaa day celebrations in Kisii County.
