Senior police officer dies in Mombasa after developing breathing problems

A senior police officer in Mombasa died in his home on Monday after developing breathing problems.

Inspector Luke Makhanu, Officer Commanding Traffic at Central police station, Mombasa, died at his Tudor home while waiting for a vehicle to take him to hospital.

Inspector Makhanu who was base commander in Changamwe around 2011-2015 was set to retire in December.

Meanwhile, 19 more people have succumbed to the virus to raise national COVID-19 fatalities to 1,130.

“756 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 4,316 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 63,244 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country. Our cumulative tests are now 746,797. From the cases 731 are Kenyans and 25 are foreigners,” said the Ministry of Health.

728 patients recovered from the disease, 645 from the Home-Based Care Program, while 83 have been discharged from various hospitals. Total recoveries now stand at 42,659.

Current active cases stand at 19,455.
