Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has been released on surety bond of sh.3 million or a cash bail of sh.4 million after she pleaded not guilty to murder charges in a Mombasa court.
The court also ordered Jumwa’s bodyguard Geoffrey Okuto released on a surety bond of one million shillings or a cash bail of sh.1.5 million.
The suspects pleaded not guilty to murder charges in a Mombasa court on Thursday before court granted them bail on Friday.
Jumwa and her bodyguard Geoffrey Okuto were charged over the murder of Gumbo Jola on 15th October 2019.
Court heard that the deceased was killed in chaos during campaigns of a by-election in Ganda ward in Malindi –Kilifi County.
Lady Justice Njoki Mwangi ordered the suspects to be released from prison upon payment of bail.
Jumwa and Okuto were arraigned in court on Monday and court ordered for a mental assessment report before pleading to the murder charges.
