Ford Asili party wants chief justice David Maraga to speed up the hearing of a petition seeking the next General Elections be conducted in 2021 .

Ford Asili Secretary General Njeru Kathangu says the petition has not been scheduled for hearing eight months after it was logged with the supreme court.

According to Ford Asili, IEBC would be contravening the constitution by conducting polls in 2022 instead of 2021.

Kathangu in his letter to Maraga, seeks interpretation on when the General Elections should be held insisting it ought to be August 2021.

“This matter is yet to go for hearing despite the gravity of the petition which in the eyes of the petitioner seeks clarification that the election date should be August 2021”, he said.

According to the petition by Ford Asili, “The first year after elections commenced was 8th August 2017 therefore the fifth year should commence on 8th August 2021”.
