Kilifi North Sub- County Director of Education arrested over bribery

KThe Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday morning arrested Kilifi North Sub-County Director of Education for soliciting bribes.

The Director, Eunice Chari Mwalaa, was arrested by detectives for seeking and receiving a bribe of sh.50,000 from a Director of a private school in the area.

“The Ministry of Education officer sought the bribe from the proprietor of Bright Beginning Academy so that she could grant her extension of time for registration of the school,” said EACC.

According to The Bribery Act 2016, the Kilifi North Sub-County Director of Education risks being convicted to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or to a fine not exceeding five million shillings, or both.

In addition, the Courts may impose an additional mandatory fine if the person incurred quantifiable loss or benefit.
