A 14-year-old girl has committed suicide by hanging  herself in Mombasa for allegedly being forced by the school to repeat class six.

Rehema Sidi hanged herself  father’s bedroom at 5:00am after her parents left for work.

According to human rights lobby group Haki Africa’s rapid response officer Mathia Shipeta, the body of the deceased was found hanging in the bedroom by her elder sister.

“We cannot rule on why she committed suicide, since she did not leave behind a suicide note, but according to the family which I have spoken to, being forced to repeat may have been a contributing factor.“said Shipeta.

The pupil who was schooling at Amani primary school in Mikindani had scored 207 marks in the end year exam.

Shipetta has said that they have reached out to the school’s administration who claimed Sidi had not reported back to school since schools opened on Monday.

She hanged herself using a piece of cloth which she tied on the ceiling board.

She was buried in the evening at their home Kwa Ng’ombe area of Mikindani according to the Muslim religion.

Shipetta has further called upon police to conduct investigations to establish  the cause of her death.
