Epileptic man dies after falling off Likoni Ferry

Mombasa,KENYA:A middle-aged man has passed away after falling off the ferry at the Likoni crossing channel.

The man was seated on the upper deck of the  MV Jambo ferry’ that was headed to the Island from Mainland Likoni when he got an epileptic attack.

Eye witness also added that the man was pushed by waves generated by the propeller towards the ramp.

The deceased was rescued by fishermen who were fishing near the scene however it was too late.

When Baraka FM visited, police officers had just whisked his body away.

 The body of the deceased who is yet to be identified was then taken to Coast Provincial General Hospital Mortuary.

Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich was not available to comment while the Likoni DCC directed us to get a comment from Rotich.

This comes amidst several cases of people attempting to commit suicide by attempting to jump off the ferry at the channel.

In February 2017, a man who authorities suspect was mentally ill died after he jumped off one of the vessels operating at the channel while in 2016, another man who had been rescued after jumping off a vessel told the court that he did so after his wife left him.
