Deputy speaker wants election for ousted committee chairs held in 7 days

Nairobi,KENYA:Kuresoi North member of national assembly Moses Cheboi who is also the deputy speaker of the national assembly and the chair of the parliamentary liaison committee wants election for chairs of the labour  and agriculture committees held in seven days.

In a media briefing after meeting held at parliamentary buildings on Monday,Cheboi said that his committee is satisfied with the resolutions of environment committee ,agriculture and labor committee on vote of no confidence which was initiated against the chairs of the three committees .

Nandi Hills legislator Alfred Keter who was also chair of labor committee , his Moiben counterpart Silas Tiren and Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen were removed from office on a vote of no confidence held last week in a motion missed by MP’s from the NASA coalition.

Nominated MP David Ole Sankok had moved the motion to oust the MPs claiming regional balance was lacking in the committee representations.

The MP’s had earlier been summoned by president Uhuru Kenyatta over their reluctance to let go of their positions against the Jubilee parties stand.

Meanwhile ,the clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai has directed that elections of committee of Broadcasting and Library will be held on Tuesday at at 9am while Chair for labour and social welfare as well as chair for Agriculture committees is scheduled for Thursday

Also elections for vice chair for environment  a position that was previously being held by the Marakwet East  legislator Kangogo Bowen will be held on Thursday.

Sialai indicated that those wishing to contest for the positions must hand in their application a day before by 5 pm to the office of the clerk or director of committees.
