Nairobi, KENYA: Hon. Silas Tiren of Moiben constituency has been ousted as National Assembly Agriculture Committee Chairman with 12 votes against 1.

Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has also been ousted as the Chairperson of the Labour Committee.

The two Jubilee MPs who lost their position on Tuesday, are among the MPs who had rebelled against the party position regarding the election of chairpersons of Parliamentary committees.

Nominated MP David Ole Sankok moved the no vote of confidence motion on Keter claiming that they did not take into consideration the requirement of regional balance.

“I can also be a chairman. I have been a chairman of Sonu when I was in the university. It’s not about qualification it’s about balance. There was no consideration of the regional balance,” he said.

Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen was also ousted as vice chair of Environment and Natural Resources with 10 against 1 vote.

Last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta summoned four MPs who are said to have defied the party’s directive to resign from committees of Parliament they were elected to head.

The four are; Moiben’s Silas Tiren, Marakwet MP David Bowen Nandi Hills’ Alfred Keter, and Emgwen’s Alex Kosgey who defied a directive by deputy president William Ruto to relinquish the seats they had won, against their party’s wishes.
