Nairobi, KENYA: Mvita mp Abdul Swamad Nassir has been elected as Public Investment Committee chair in the National Assembly garnering 11 votes trouncing his competitor Butere legislator Nicholas Tindi Mwale who garnered 8 votes.

The total votes cast were 19.

Nassir emerged the winner after a first-round vote count tie of 6 votes with Wajir East legislator Rashid Kassim, while Tindi Mwale garnered 7 votes against the two in the first round.

They were forced to repeat the exercise after the candidates failed to attain a threshold of 50 plus one.

Meanwhile, Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi has been elected to Parliamentary Accounts Committee docket as a Chair after garnering 15 votes against Nambale MP Sakwa Bunyasi who only managed 3 votes.

Wandayi emerged the winner during a voting exercise which involved the members of the committee at parliamentary buildings on Monday morning.

At the same time, Kibwezi East legislator Jessica Mbalu edged out Busia County women representative Florence Mutua by 11 votes to Deputise Wandayi in PAC.
