Kisumu, KENYA: Zanzibar has qualified for the finals of the ongoing Cecafa senior challenge tournament by toppling Uganda 2-1 in the semi-final match staged at the Moi, stadium Kisumu on Friday.

Uganda who were the defending champions came from behind to force a one all draw in the first half before going down in the second stanza as the Islanders grab their second of the day.

En-route to the finals Zanzibar who have been the tournament’s dark-horse overcame Kilimanjaro Stars of Tanzania 2-1 before stunning Rwanda 3-1, and will now face hosts Harambee Stars in the Sunday’s finals.

Before their 0-0 draw in the group stage meeting, the two sides had met in 2001 where Harambee Stars emerged 1-0 winners, a success that head coach Paul Put will be seeking to repeat as Kenya aspire to win the tournament for the first time since 2013.
