Mombasa, KENYA: A driver together with six occupants of a car narrowly escaped death after their vehicle plunged into the Indian ocean Thursday morning.
Witnesses say the private car Toyota Fielder registration number KBR 258T developed mechanical problems shortly after it had disembarked from MV Jambo ferry.
Police at the scene told Baraka FM the vehicle was coming from Likoni side towards Mombasa Island.
According to witnesses, the occupants had alighted from the vehicle when it reversed and plunged into the ocean.
“The car developed mechanical complications as it disembarked from the ferry and so the driver had come out to check the battery and try to jump start it, within no time the car reversed and plunged into the ocean.” Said Oscar Mwalimu, a witness.
The driver had told the occupants to alight after he realized the car had problems.
